Two services, two seasons
Most North Alabama lawns are fescue, Bermuda or Zoysia, and plenty have a mix. Cool-season fescue is aerated and overseeded in the fall. Warm-season Bermuda and Zoysia are aerated in spring and summer while they're growing.

Core aeration followed by overseeding. Fresh seed drops into the aeration holes, gets good soil contact, and fills in thin, tired turf.

For Bermuda and Zoysia lawns
Core aeration while warm-season grass is actively growing, so it recovers fast. Bermuda and Zoysia spread by runners and fill the holes in on their own.

Why aerate?
Foot traffic, mowing and our North Alabama clay pack soil down over time. Water runs off instead of soaking in, and roots stay shallow.
Core aeration pulls small plugs of soil out of the lawn. That opens space for air, water and nutrients to reach the roots. The plugs are left on top to break down.
Recommended 1–2 times per year.
Loose soil lets roots grow deeper and stronger.
Rain and irrigation soak in instead of running off.
Pulling cores relieves packed-down soil.
Healthier roots grow denser, greener turf.

We book your lawn inside the right window for your grass: late August to mid October for fescue, mid/late April through August for Bermuda and Zoysia.
Let us know about sprinkler heads, shallow irrigation lines or invisible dog fence wires, so the aerator can steer around them.
We core-aerate the lawn. Fescue lawns are overseeded right after, so the seed settles into the fresh holes.
Leave the soil plugs to break down. For overseeded fescue, keep the seed moist with light, regular watering until it's up.

Common questions
A machine pulls small plugs of soil out of your lawn. The holes let air, water and nutrients reach the roots and relieve compacted soil. The plugs are left on the lawn and break down on their own.
Fescue is a cool-season grass. It grows best in the mild weather of fall, so seed sown then has time to root before winter and before summer heat returns. Aerating first gives the seed good contact with the soil.
Bermuda and Zoysia spread by runners, so they fill in the aeration holes on their own as they grow. We aerate them during active growth, mid/late April through August, so they recover quickly. Seeding fescue into a warm-season lawn would give you a patchy mix of two grasses.
Once or twice a year is recommended for most lawns. Heavy clay or high-traffic yards benefit most.
